Transition Marking Transformation
I'm officially a sophomore in college? Very funny, yeah right! So you mean to tell me that freshman year is over? GOOD JOKE. The thought that freshman year is over and complete hasn't officially hit me quite yet.
Okay so before and while going to college I was a major homebody but independent for the most part. To pin point my emotions going through the grape vine to move to Southern California: I WAS FREAKING OUT. I was going to live on my own, no longer have the chance to go home easily, and most importantly no more home cooked meals. But going deeper, I was going to miss making memories with my parents, sharing thoughts and giggles every day, as well with my church family. There is something about my church that makes me genuinely happy and want to pursue the faith more and more each day. Being part of a mega church that has a heavenly and vibrant community has really impacted me. This was the time to be pulled out of my comfort zone (my mom forcing me out of the car) and finding that cornerstone of home in a new place with new people.
For the past 8-9 months I have been transformed. Just like it takes 9 months for a new creation to take his/her first breath, for me after 9 months of being at college I was once a girl who was nervous and worried but has become a new creation after 9 months. The Lord has allowed me to witness the true essence of life and how I can mark my footprint on the right path. I have a lot of confessions to make in the midst of my incredible journey.
1. I have been transformed.
I am no longer a home body. I am independent. I am worthy. I am HAPPY. Getting out of my comfort zone was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Thanks dad for telling me, "Sis you are not allowed to call for the first month" (in reality he called me my first day). I think it's important to have parents who throw you out of your comfort zone because besides God they are the people who know how you function and perceive things the most. I admit that before college I found myself people pleasing but now I am a God pleaser. I learned this through my first year of college but especially in the past month. My dear friend Noah told me last week "Believe and feel the peace God gives you, don't rely on others for peace." How on point is that?! If there's one thing I have witnessed within myself is that change is good, who cares what other people think, and to just be myself.
2. FRIENDS
People do not lie when they say you meet your forever friends in college. The friendships I have made are absolutely incredible. It's amazing that the people I met only 4-9 months ago I have found a deeper connection than with people I have known my whole life. I definitely found some bridesmaids ;) LOL. On a more serious note I want people going to college, especially girls, to know to BE YOUR TRUE SELF. Be weird. Laugh whether its funny or not. Be serious. Be an introvert. Be an extrovert. Whoever who are be that person because when you introduce yourself, introduce YOU and not anyone else. Trust me this is a fresh start, your baggage is the past, and people will love you for you. I'm serious, it's that easy.
3. Appreciation
When you go away to college, it won't hit you right away but once you go home for the first time after being away you learn to appreciate where you come from, your parents, and the littlest of things. I have always appreciated the place I called home but now it is has majorly increased. The only place I look forward coming back to the environment behind my front door and who shares it with me. The relationship with my parents has always been tight-nitched but I firmly believe that moving out has enhanced our relationship. They have grown from being empty nesters and I have blossomed into a new daughter from being away. I love the people who raised me. Now the littlest things are what I have gained to enjoy. Who knew receiving a letter in college could change your day completely or glancing down at your phone and seeing a bitmoji text from your parents or your bathtub at home or home cooked meals! College budgets are real and exist to have those our age appreciate the littlest things.
I am so thrilled to be a sophomore! This next year will be so incredible. I will be an Alpha leader which mentors incoming freshman & I will be studying abroad in Ecuador. My excitement to learn a new culture, witness the Lord in a different language, and to be able to learn academically and spiritually in a different continent is so exciting!!! Lord direct my steps, give me the words to inspire, and be at the center of it all. I pray I continue to be a girl after God's own heart daily. I love my school and everyone I have met! God is good.
HAPPY SUMMER! HOOT HOOT!
I am grateful and He is gracious. Happy Day!
XO
